The Whittier, California, community is mourning the loss of Kyle Croft Boatwright, a talented artist and accomplished adventurer who died on July 7, 2026, in Interlaken, Switzerland. He was 38 years old.
Kyle was born in San Diego on November 25, 1987, and was raised in Coronado, where he attended schools within the Coronado Unified School District. He later graduated magna cum laude from California State University, Los Angeles, earning a degree in Nutritional Science. At the time of his passing, he was also pursuing a degree in Computer Science through Western Governors University.
Before committing himself fully to his art, Kyle worked in construction. He eventually built a respected career as a self-taught street artist and muralist, working primarily with spray paint.
Kyle began painting at just 14 years old and continued developing his craft throughout his life. His talent led to commissions and live painting opportunities for major brands including Coca-Cola, Microsoft, Toyota, Adidas, and Marriott.
Among his many projects was a mural series featured in a Microsoft Surface commercial. He also constructed and painted a wall at San Diego Comic-Con before a live audience. His Muhammad Ali murals became particularly recognizable at The BXNG Club gyms throughout San Diego County, while his artwork can be found in communities across Southern California.
Beyond his artistic achievements, Kyle was known for his adventurous spirit. He developed a passion for skydiving, BASE jumping, and wingsuiting and eventually became a highly accomplished glider and trainer.
Kyle was the beloved husband of Valeria Cabrera. He is also survived by his parents, siblings, nieces, nephews, and an extended family who will deeply miss him.
A celebration of Kyle’s life is scheduled for Sunday, August 30, 2026, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Long Beach Museum of Art, 2300 E. Ocean Blvd., Long Beach, California.
His family, friends, and fellow artists will gather to honor a life defined by creativity, courage, adventure, and an enduring passion for art.
